There’s only one man with 72 consecutive years of bringing the New Year in swinging, and over seven decades of music under their belt. This is why Dal Richards is one of most experienced, and influential men in the Big Band business.
As the bandleader of his orchestra, Dal has established himself as one of the most successful all-time musicians, through an incredibly enriching career. He succeeded, and rose to the top from 1930 - 1960, and survived the slowing demand in the 60’s, just to make a comeback in 80’s, where his band continues to entertain this very day. In fact, he’s never been busier.
By 1941 Dal was leading his band at Vancouver's most popular dance venue, the Panorama Roof at the Hotel Vancouver. The Roof and the band became the centre of Vancouver's social scene for more than 25-years and brought a taste of Vancouver night life to Canadians across the country on live CBC broadcasts from the Roof on Saturday nights.
Whether you want him for a corporate event, community concert, or even special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries, Dal does it all. Dal and his 14-piece Big Band orchestra are ready to sweep you off your feet.
In 1984, the then-mayor of Vancouver declared February 3rd to be Dal Richards day. This is a vivid example of the effect Dal has left on the city and the swing music scene.
In 2009 legendary Vancouver bandleader Dal Richards released a new
big band CD, Dal Richards & Friends One More Time. Joined by
his regular big band vocalists Jamie Croil, Jennifer Hayes,
Diane Lines, Bria Skonberg and by special guest artist
bluesman Jim Byrnes, the CD, Dal Richards & Friends One More
Time, features more than a dozen songs of big band music at
its finest.
"Doctor Swing adds to his legacy with this CD. It's
the first session recorded at CBC's new Studio One
facility and wow, does it slam home. The band
swings like mad and the singers are in great form,
particularly Jim Byrnes on St. Louis Blues"
